Jul 2011: Clothes Aid makes Scotland’s longest clothesline for CHAS

Scotland’s Longest Clothesline transformed Edinburgh’s Inverleith Park yesterday thanks to the Scottish public donating over 2,000 items of unwanted clothing to hang on the line for charity.

The one kilometre clothesline – a first for Scotland, was organised by Clothes Aid to raise funds for CHAS. All the donated items from the clothesline will be sold through the CHAS shops and overseas to raise money for CHAS.

Edinburgh Central MSP Marco Biagi turned up to show his support along with two brothers who regularly use Rachel House Children’s Hospice in Kinross run by CHAS for respite breaks.

Director of Fundraising and Communications Roslyn Neely said, “It was a wonderful day – with some very generous members of the public bringing down bags of unwanted clothing. Scotland’s Longest Clothesline has been a very eye-catching way of letting people know that unwanted items in their wardrobes can really benefit CHAS thanks to our partnership with Clothes Aid.”

Business Manager at Clothes Aid Michael Lomotey said, “Scotland’s Longest Clothesline was a terrific success thanks to the donations we received on the day. Since Clothes Aid began its partnership with CHAS over two years ago, the Scottish public have helped raise £230,000 for CHAS while diverting hundreds of tonnes of waste from landfill at the same time.”
